The horse caravan experience

Why not take to the road with a friendly horse pulling your home and experience the gypsy lifestyle?

Our horse caravan holiday has two main features – establishing a bond with your horse and exploring the Wicklow countryside in a carefree and non-hectic fashion.

This eco – friendly holiday is a great way to spend quality time as a family, to escape as a couple or to enjoy a fun experience with friends. This is a vacation where it is ok to indulge your childhood fantasies, wear wellies, get dirty, toast marshmallows and sing out of tune around the campfire.  Take the reins with an extra riding horse hired together with your caravan and enjoy the freedom of the countryside. Available for beginner and medium riders aged over twelve.

Adventure at your own pace

This is a holiday where you and your horse decide the pace.

You may choose to have a very quiet, leisurely, intimate break, or you may prefer to fill your time with activities. Clip clopping along, you will be surrounded by the peaceful and charming green Irish countryside which features wild green valleys, clear rivers, waterfalls, woodlands, beaches and the Irish Sea.

We have a selection of locations in our area where farmers, B&Bs and pub owners welcome our caravans to park and graze the horses at night for a fee. These are the ‘overnight stops’. They provide parking for the caravan, grass for the horse, drinking water, rubbish disposal and sanitary facilities. They charge on average between €20 and €25 for these facilities. Some places also offer homemade and farm produce for sale.

As part of our Route Discussion we highlight the attractions of the area and help you choose an itinerary from a selection of overnight stops. We provide you with a marked map and info pack on the locations you can visit with your horse and caravan. The comfortable distances between the stops (max.15 km/4-5 hours) make it possible to just trundle along in the unspoilt Wicklow landscape at the slow pace of our gentle giants.

Holiday with a Horse – Training

Over 70% of our new visitors have no horse experience at all.

We provide all visitors with a full ‘horse instruction’ which consists of your learning and practicing how to catch, look after, harness and drive your horse.

Our training is such that we have confidence that our visitors will be capable of caring for their horse and enjoying their holiday. If you need any assistance along the way, we are only a call away!

Our horses, Irish Cobs, are famous for being strong, quiet and docile. We take great care to match you with a horse especially selected for the route and for your ability.

Your Unique Accommodation

Your horse caravan is well equipped to give you all the necessary comforts for your trip and yet light enough for one horse to pull. The caravans are approx. 5m long and 2m wide.

The caravan includes:

Hear from some happy holidaymakers

We really enjoyed our week ambling round the lovely Wicklow countryside.  Romeo was a fantastic horse – you couldn’t have asked for a more good natured, patient and friendly animal.  We were actually quite nervous about how we would handle him at the start of the week, as neither of us had had anything to do with horses up until last Saturday, but under John’s expert instruction and all of you being so encouraging, we felt very supported and really confident by the end.  It was a fantastic way of seeing some beautiful countryside and having time to appreciate it rather than dashing through it in a metal box.
