3 nights
Your holiday with a horse
Take to the road with a friendly horse.
For those passionate about exploring, Tour 1 offers the maximum travelling time with your horse and caravan each day and lets you enjoy the full facilities of our farm each night. When you arrive back each day we will help you pamper your horse with a nice refreshing shower and some tasty treats before you release him to the field beside your caravan. Share stories of your horse adventures and toast marshmallows on the campfire or hide away in your cosy caravan with your loved ones beneath the shimmering star-lit skies.
Clip clopping along, you will be surrounded by the peaceful and charming green Irish countryside with mature woodlands, roads hugged by a canopy of trees and picturesque old stone bridges. This is a holiday where you form a strong bond with your horse companion, indulge in your childhood fantasies, splash around in wellies and toast marshmallows and sing around the campfire.

Wednesday or Saturday
Arrival at our farm at Cronybyrne:
Our family farm at Cronybyrne is located just 1 ½ hours from Dublin airport and 1 hour from Dublin city. Visitors can travel to us by an excellent bus link direct from Dublin airport/city to our local village at Ashford which runs on an hourly basis followed by a short taxi journey. We can also organise taxi transfers direct from the airport for our visitors, which stop en route to allow you to do some shopping for food supplies. We provide free parking for those with a rental car.
On arrival on our farm we will show you in to your caravan, give you a short tour of the farm and give you some time to settle in. Depending on your arrival time, we can do a map marking session with you later that day or the following morning, where we provide detailed information on the route and local attractions and mark you a map to follow for the trip.
Our 100 acre farm lies next to some beautiful forestry and a nature reserve with well-marked walks and once you are settled in to the caravan you are welcome to explore the farm, visit the horses and donkeys and collect firewood for your campfire.
Thursday or Sunday
Horse Training and 1st journey:
On the morning after your arrival, we do the ‘horse instruction’. This consists of your learning and practicing how to catch, look after, harness, yoke and drive a horse. Before you start on the comprehensive ‘horse instruction’, we will have talked with you and will match you with a horse suitable for your route and for your horse experience or lack of it. Following the instruction we introduce you to your horse and get you set on your first journey.
Day 2: The Loop & Back to Base
This is a lovely scenic routes from our farm and brings you on a looped circuit to the tiny village of Moneystown with great views of green pastureland and Trooperstown Hill before returning to our farm for the night.
Once you are back at base, you can unhitch and unharness your horse yourselves, give him a nice refreshing shower and then release him in to the big field bedside the caravans with all his friends. Make sure to look out for him rolling in the grass after his shower!
We can happily arrange a taxi to bring you to Laragh to go for a meal at The Wicklow Heather and visit the famous lakes and monastic site at Glendalough or give you maps to explore the beautiful Avonmore Way marked walks which you can follow all the way to Rathdrum Village.
Friday or Monday
On the morning of you third day, you catch your horse, harness up and set off again with the horse and caravan, this time on a journey where you use the same road in both directions and turn around to come home. This route takes you along the road bordering the Clara Vale Nature Reserve. With beautiful oak forest on both sides of the road and a canopy of trees overhead, you travel in the direction of Rathdrum and turn to come home before reaching the village.
Returning to our base at Cronybyrne, a campfire and BBQ dinner can be great fun for the last night or we are happy to organize a taxi to bring you for a meal or to visit a traditional Irish pub before checking out the following day.
