Wednesday or Saturday
Arrival at our farm at Cronybyrne:
Our family farm at Cronybyrne is located just 1 ½ hours from Dublin airport and 1 hour from Dublin city. Visitors can travel to us by an excellent bus link direct from Dublin airport/city to our local village at Ashford which runs on an hourly basis followed by a short taxi journey. We can also organise taxi transfers direct from the airport for our visitors, which stop en route to allow you to do some shopping for food supplies. We provide free parking for those with a rental car.
On arrival on our farm we will show you in to your caravan, give you a short tour of the farm and give you some time to settle in. Depending on your arrival time, we can do a map marking session with you later that day or the following morning, where we provide detailed information on the route and local attractions and mark you a map to follow for the trip.
Our 100 acre farm lies next to some beautiful forestry and a nature reserve with well-marked walks and once you are settled in to the caravan you are welcome to explore the farm, visit the horses and donkeys and collect firewood for you campfire.
Thursday or Saturday
Horse Training and Caravan Roadtrip
On the morning after your arrival, we do the ‘horse instruction’. This consists of your learning and practicing how to catch, look after, harness, yoke and drive a horse. Before you start on the comprehensive ‘horse instruction’, we will have talked with you and will match you with a horse suitable for your route and for your horse experience or lack of it. Following the instruction we introduce you to your horse and get you set on your looped journey.
Travel “The Loop”
This is a lovely scenic route from our farm and brings you on a looped circuit to the tiny village of Moneystown with great views of green pastureland and Trooperstown Hill before returning to our farm to set up camp again for the night.
On returning to the farm you unharness the horse, give him a nice cooling shower and then release him to the field with all his friends.
Enjoy an evening under the stars with a campfire or BBQ in the field and share tales of your horse adventures or relax and unwind in your cosy caravan with a good book and a hot chocolate.
We are also happy to help organize a taxi to bring you for a meal or to visit a traditional Irish pub.
Friday or Monday
Swap your horse for a donkey
We will introduce you to our friendly donkeys and teach you how to handle and groom them before setting off on your donkey walking adventure. Together with your donkey companion you’ll take a stroll on the little roads around our farm and through the neighbouring forest. Then when we come back you can give them some treats and return them to their field. Feel free to bring carrots, apples or gingernut biscuits which they love!
